Our home, set in southwestern Connecticut, is secured amidst oaks, pines, and ridge top views. This rugged terrain provides unlimited exercise area for our dogs and puppies, resulting in great, natural muscle tone.
Gene and I take pride in our breeding program, which divs thirty years. Our pedigrees concentrate on breedings that incorporate the Jubilan, Thaon, Genesis, and Coastwind lines, with outcrosses to established lines when an exceptional quality can be gained. We are proud to have bred, shown, and finished many progeny, with a multiple specialty best in show winner among them. We strive to produce Afghan Hounds that carry the unique characteristics the breed standard calls for.
Through a sound breeding program, CharterOak has established us as reputable, responsible breeders, producing puppies with great 'love-of-life' temperaments. All our dogs are AKC registered and vet checked for health. We are Afghan Hound Club of America members in good standing, as well as belonging to our regional club, Nutmeg Afghan Hound Club, where we are officers and board members.
We participate in conformation shows, but many of our dogs have done well in obedience, agility, lure coursing, and as therapy dogs. We encourage people who buy our dogs and puppies to stay current with the breed through education, attending Afghan Hound specialty shows, puppy /adult fun matches, and all breed dog shows.
